Dyslexia = When a smart child has a difficulty in learning to read well
Dyslexia is a general term for disorders that cause difficulty in reading, learning to read, interpreting symbols, or other language interpretation but does not affect general intelligence.
Because the term covers several conditions this often leads to confusion. Countless arguments go on over this simple misunderstanding. The term does not define the underlying cause of the problem, which can be varied.
There are multiple possible underlying causes and there is often more than one. It is helpful to identify the main underlying cause but treatment would involve treating all possible causes to ensure that they are ruled out. This has the added benefit of strengthening all learning systems.
