Here are some strategies, that can be used to overcome the avoidance and emotional issues when it comes to homework. First and foremost, parents need to listen to their young adults. By doing so, parents can determine what is going on. In turn, if parents know the material, that is a bonus that can help their young adults. The parents can determine what their young adults do understand and what they need help with. It does take an incredible amount of patience and having the ability to listen without judging. It always needs to be remembered that the parents are willing to realize that they can help their young adults learn the material when they are able to focus on the need to learn the material without becoming impatient and without judging. After all, the young adults need help with the material.

Secondly, under the above circumstances or even if the parents do not know the subject, it is extremely important to promote genuine confidence by giving genuine encouragement and genuine praise. By doing so, this can motivate their young adults to want to complete their homework in order to learn the material.

Next, when and if the parents and the young adults do not know how to tackle the subject, the parents need to do the following:

1. They should encourage their young adults to ask their teachers for help.

2. If the young adults do not feel comfortable asking their teachers for help, it is extremely important for the parents to suggest the following to their young adults.

a. The young adults should review the textbook.

b. The young adults should review their notes.

c. The young adults should review all of their graded work, including corrected homework, quizzes, and tests.

d. If the subject has a textbook, oftentimes, textbook companies will have websites for students to use for support in order to understand the material.

e. Also on the Internet, just do a Google search of the subject can be helpful in order to clarify what needs to be understood better.

f. Getting a peer tutor can be beneficial.

g. Getting a tutor who is paid can be beneficial.
