James Armijo is CEO of Smartcare, the leading cloud platform for childcare providers to modernize the management of their operations and education of young children. Smartcare strives to be the leading technology platform that solves the challenges daycare, childcare, preschool, and afterschool programs across the country face, freeing directors and teachers to do what they do best: build the next generation and delight parents.

In his role, James directs the company’s strategy and manages operations. James joined Smartcare as President in April 2016. In that role, he led the product management team, moving the product from its beta launch to a product that is widely accepted by thousands of customers.

Prior to joining Smartcare, James was the Chief Operating Officer at PatientPop, the first company to provide a single SaaS platform to integrate all aspects of local marketing for healthcare practices. He joined the company in 2015. During his time with the company, he helped the company increase bookings and revenue by over 400%, and grow headcount to over 100 people in locations throughout the US.

Prior to joining PatientPop, James worked for Kareo, a provider of cloud-based electronic healthcare records, practice management software and revenue cycle management solutions to healthcare providers. James was also the Senior Director of Business Operations and Inside Sales at 8x8 (NASDAQ: EGHT), a provider of cloud-based communication solutions to businesses.

James began his career as a research analyst for Engemann Asset Management, a small-cap growth fund with $500 million in assets under management. Although he was officially a generalist, James developed a passion for the technology sector and focused most of his work on software-as-a-service companies during his time with Engemann.

James holds a Bachelor of Arts in Diplomacy and World Affairs with a concentration in Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, training for and racing in just about any endurance race he can find, cooking, and reading.
